All About Rideshare

Do you drive for a Rideshare (Transportation Network Company) like Lyft or Uber? Are you properly insured?

The short answer is: Always check with your agent.

Many carriers have exclusions for any commercial use, and can issue a non-renewal on your personal policy, if you are driving for a Transportation Network Company (TNC). For carriers who do allow driving for TNCs, endorsements to existing policies may be necessary in order to protect your assets. You may purchase coverage offered by the TNC, but this coverage may fall short of your needs in the event of an accident and often comes with a high deductible. Another option is to secure a commercial lines auto policy, in your own name, that would be in effect for both your TNC use and personal use. Always make sure you check that your policy is compatible with a Transportation Network Company policy and disclose all possible vehicle uses to your agent to ensure sure you have the proper coverage.
